The water right off the dock is shallow with a soft bottom but take the board out a bit and the water is clear and deep for a great swim.
Canoe and kayak rentals are available in Kearney (5 min drive) and they can be delivered directly to the cottage if you book 72 hours ahead. There is also a public beach in Kearney with a public boat launch and plenty of nearby parks and hiking trails.
